The mission of Focused Law is to provide high quality legal services to clients in a timely manner. The firm's practice is focused in the following areas:
By focusing in these areas, we are able to better direct our time, energy, and resources in a way that maximizes value to our clients.
Ashley J.P. Schmit (Owner/Attorney at Law) believes the service she provides is centered on relationships.
"With each client, my goal is to help them understand the legal matters affecting
them and their loved ones. The issues my clients face are extremely important to
them, which makes them important to me. Their focus is my focus.”
The "O" symbol in our logo is the Norwegian symbol for family.
Family and relationships are at the heart of Focused Law. The firm aims to support the most important relationships in the lives of its clients, while maintaining a strong, family-focused work environment for its team members.
And in case you are wondering if Ashley has Norwegian blood running through her veins, the answer is: Ya, sure. You betcha!
When choosing a name for the firm, Focused Law rose to the top of the list for many reasons.
The first and most obvious reason is the firm is FOCUSED in certain practice areas – estate and business planning, estate (probate & trust) administration, and real estate transactions.
A second reason is the firm is FOCUSED on its clients and their goals. The firm's operation has been set up to support this focus. (See When is Focused Law Firm open? in the Office Hours portion of this website).
Focused Law is committed to delivering quality legal services to its clients in a timely manner, and staying focused helps us do just that. However, whether we like it or not, part of focusing is recognizing our limits. It is recognizing the fact there are only 24 hours in each day. The following quote by Steve Jobs (American inventor, designer, and entrepreneur) recognizes these realities and verbalizes one of the founding principles of Focused Law.
"Focused does not mean saying yes, it means saying no."
If we could change the quote ever so slightly, it would read: Focused does not mean saying “yes”, it means saying “no” or “yes, but not now.”
Sometimes the answer needs to be "yes, but not now." At Focused Law, we call this the “responsible yes”.
It is easy to say “yes”. It feels good to say “yes”. Saying “yes” makes people happy. But we must recognize our limits and remember that saying “yes” to one thing means we must say “no” to something else.
Saying too many yeses looks different for different people. For some, it may be taking on too many projects at one time. For others, it may be working when your body is telling you to rest and heal.
At Focused Law, our goal is to give our clients a “responsible yes” or, if we are unable, to do our best to help them find someone who can.
We are beyond grateful to our clients for their patience and flexibility when our “responsible yes” isn’t what they are hoping to hear. We appreciate you and we are so grateful for the trust you have placed in our firm!
